What DOES the fox say?

I am a sucker for cute furry animals. And I’m a fan of the adorable Norwegian brothers Ylvis who created the viral hit “What does the fox say?”

"Jacha-chacha-chacha-chow!"

“Jacha-chacha-chacha-chow!”

For a few years our sedate suburban neighborhood was overrun by red fox families in the spring.Unlike the foxes in the video rather than living in the woods these lived on the golf course, in the park, and denned in the retaining wall next to the elementary school.

"Fraka-kaka-kaka-kaka-kow!" says the kit fox by the elementary school.

On evening strolls we were treated to the sights of kits playing on the lawn, with mom watching close by. One time a family was crossing the street but the littlest kit was afraid to cross. After mom called to him a few times he stayed on the sidewalk crying. She finally went back and picked him up by the scruff and brought him across.

"A-hee-ahee ha-hee!"

“A-hee-ahee ha-hee!”

At night with the widows open we would hear them scream to each other. “A-oo-oo-oo-ooo!“.

After a couple of years the foxes decimated our once robust bunny population and they left for greener or furrier pastures. But I keep watching for their return every spring.
